If you don't make time for wellness…
Struggling to find time for exercise? Many people think that getting in shape requires hours upon hours of workouts each week. The truth is, adults aged 18-64 only need 2-3 hours of moderate physical activity weekly. This minimal commitment can help prevent heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and even some cancers. It can also boost mental well-being and overall quality of life.
We all know exercise and healthy nutrition are vital, yet we often find it hard to dedicate time for these things in our lives. I come back to this quote by Robin Sharma often:
"Take care of your body. It's the only place you have to live. If you don't make time for wellness, you'll be forced to make time for your illness."
Sadly, many people only begin to prioritize their well-being after a health scare. Fear often serves as a powerful motivator in such instances, providing a much-needed push to initiate positive changes. However, in my experience, fear-based motivation tends to fizzle out over time and lacks the endurance to sustain a lifelong commitment. What we need is a deeper, more enduring source of inspiration—a calling that can carry us through the ups and downs of our wellness journey.
If you have ancestry from the Philippines and you feel the call to train, then Kali can serve as a dual-purpose vehicle: a deeper spiritual motivator for practical purposes. It taps into ancestral healing and connection, while providing a container and practice that can improve your physical and mental health.
Additionally, besides these important reasons to train, it's simply just a lot of fun! Taking time for our wellness doesn't have to be a chore, but can be a source of joy. Who doesn't want to make more time for fun?
If you're Filipino/a/x and want to discover how Kali, Filipino Martial Arts can inspire you to prioritize your wellness at a pace that feels right for you, join my masterclass on Tuesday, September 12th, at 6:30 pm EST.
