Eye 👁 of the Crocodile 🐊
Hello friends!
Happy New Year and welcome back from the holiday hiatus. I hope you're still honoring wherever you're at in your hibernation. I was in a deep reflective winter cocoon these past few weeks. But as we've passed the winter solstice, I've been riding the wave of energy from the collective... feeling fresh start kind of vibes. So...
New year, new logo!
What does it mean?? Well, in Filipino Martial Arts (FMA), triangle symbolism is everywhere. There's multiple meanings behind the triangle (which I'll save for another time), but if you've trained in FMA before, you might be familiar with the many triangle footwork patterns.
Uh, I don't see any triangles, Kristen.
Lol... You are correct! There aren't any! Or so it may seem...
I chose the image of two overlapping circles, also known in sacred geometry as the vesica piscis because it represents the divine feminine. This symbol has been found throughout ancient history in different cultures across the world, and mathematically contains other shapes (including the triangle, as you can see below). Also, in some circles (no pun intended), this shape is called the Eye of the Crocodile. Did you know that in some indigenous traditions in the Philippines, the crocodile is the guardian of the underworld and bridges the physical and spirit realms?
The vesica piscis is also the origin of other sacred geometry patterns. While I love the feel of all sacred geometry, I chose the vesica piscis because my journey has been about bringing the sacred feminine back into Kali.
Since straight lines depict masculine energy, I chose the kampilan headhunter sword so both polarities are represented. My mission is to live out (and share with you) what a healthier, more balanced expression of the warrior can be. (BTW, the traditional hilt of the kampilan sword can be shaped like a crocodile's head.)
And lastly, the butterfly wings represent my belief and lived experience that Kali can be a chrysalis for transformation on the individual and collective level. The decolonization work that you do on the spiritual level can be supported by physical training that keeps you healthy, strong, and safe. Chrysalis Kali is a healing and empowering practice that can help you create your best life.
The world still needs warriors, but the warrior of today can't look or act like the warriors of the past. Our challenges are different, so our weapons must change. What values do you stand for? What is the world you're willing to fight for? Let's explore new ways to be warrior together. We are the warriors our ancestors dreamed of.
Hope you can join me in some of my offerings this year. Stay tuned for what's next for CKC in 2023!
With love,
Kristen
