All footwork leads back to you 👣
We had our last in-person training session of 2024 yesterday, and I was deeply moved by the reflections shared on how Kali has not only impacted our lives but also how being part of this chrysalis of a community—training, learning about our warrior heritage, and connecting it to our personal journeys—has been both so nourishing and transformative.
As we approach the end of the year in our online membership, I’ve been reflecting on our shared experience there as well. Our online space has given us the opportunity to dive even deeper into the themes of the Collective. I’m so grateful for the chance to connect with people from different parts of the country who are also engaged in important decolonization work within their own communities. The solidarity we’ve found through this online space has been a powerful reminder that we’re never alone on this path.
Tomorrow, in our movement session in the Decolonization Dojo, we’ll revisit the Kali footwork patterns we’ve worked with this year: triangle, star, and hourglass. As we move through these patterns, I invite you to reflect on the paths you’ve walked this year and where they’ve led you.
One truth that stands out for me is that all roads ultimately lead back to myself. Whether in major decisions or small daily choices, each step reveals something essential about who I am—that I am whole, that I am home, that I am enough. So often, I’ve believed that striving for something or reaching a specific goal would transform me. But it’s through the act of simply living—navigating challenges, sometimes succeeding with flying colors and sometimes just getting by, yet always moving forward—that I come to realize what I was seeking has always been within me.
I carry this wholeness and sense of home with me everywhere I go—and so do you. Our everyday lives continually offer us opportunities to choose this truth. Dismantling old beliefs of 'not-enoughness' is no small task, but it is the sacred work of the warriors of our generation. And this work becomes lighter, more possible, when we do it together—mirroring and reminding each other of the truth of who we truly are.
Tomorrow is our last online movement session of 2024, with one final reflection session next week before we take a short winter break. But your warrior journey doesn’t have to pause! Our online library now offers over 135 videos—from solo Kali drills to deep dives in our Decolonization Dojo sessions. You can explore recordings about the revolts against the Spanish in Legacy of Resistance, discover the meaning behind Warrior Spirit Animals, or learn about the vagus nerve—or Soul Nerve—as a vital key to healing trauma.
